Cardio can be done on exercise equipment at home or in the gym, or it can be done in an exercise class, working out with a DVD, or physical activities in and outside of the home.

2. Increasing Muscle Strength - is best attained through resistance training. Resistance training isn’t just lifting weights at home or at the gym, it can also be pull-ups, push-ups, or using resistance bands. There are many good DVD’s showing how to increase your muscle strength by focusing on specific muscle groups. For those that want to reap the most benefits of physical fitness and resistance training, will usually find themselves in the weight room with the help of a personal trainer coaching them to work hard to get the desired results.

You should gradually increase the frequency to where you have done moderate intensity activities for 3 to 4 days. Moderate intensity means your heart rate is increased, but you can still hold a conversation. The most common activities that fit into this category are: brisk walking, jogging, riding a bike, and swimming. For maximum results you should do the activity for at least 30 minutes or more. Make sure you consult a physician before becoming physically active.

The great thing about committing to good physical fitness plans is that you can work out with like-minded individuals. This will include fitness clubs, recreation centers, and studios where classes are held. If this doesn’t sound fun to you that’s OK, there are all types of activities that are geared around fun such as in parks and recreation areas where the activities usually are not as organized and are more on the leisure side. The key is to find activities you like and have fun!
